Content Types

In AVEVA Initial Design Hydrostatics, content types are the actual contents loaded into compartments in a particular loading condition. Content types can be set up here and assigned to compartment categories.

For each content, the following must be defined:

  • ID - an identifier.

  • Type - the contents type which can be one of 4 available options.

  • Density - the density.

  • Grain Angle - the grain angle in degrees.

  • Colour - a colour code which is used to provide visual clarification in Loading Diagrams.

  • Permeability (%) - the permeability of the contents with respect to water ingress in damage. So for the type Liquid this should be zero.

    Content Type

    Description

    Liquid

Shifting substance which exhibits free surface moment properties.

    Solid

    Non-shifting, dry, substance (no FSM).

    Grain

When selected, a Grain Angle (in degrees) must also be entered, which then determines the upright grain heeling moment. As the vessel heels, the grain heeling moment decreases linearly at the rate of 0.5% per degree. Grain angle is greyed out when one of the other types are selected.

When the hold is full, the grain heeling moment will be calculated according to the trimmed ends regulations.

    Untrimmed

As for Grain, except that for full holds, the untrimmed grain regulations apply.

The option, Use Colour for Compartments, is used to signify that the colours defined for a Content Type can be used to control the colour of a compartment.

By either:

  1. Setting the category (with associated content type) at the point of creation of a compartment; in which case the content type's colour acts as the default compartment colour (instead of the that defined in the Colours page of the Options dialog) or,

  2. Editing an existing compartment by changing it's category (with associated content type), thus matching the compartment colour to that of the new content type or,

  3. Setting the colour of a content type, which results in this colour being applied to all compartments whose category use that particular content type.

When not set, none of the above scenarios will change a compartment's colour.

Click Apply to update any changes to the list of content types.
