Support Location

A support is first located by positioning a plane in the 3D model. The quickest way of doing this is by identifying the piping to be supported in a graphical view. Support location and orientation can be determined by the position of a piping component, by a distance from a previous support, or by explicit coordinates. Each pipe to be supported is identified, and the hanger type (for example, grip or non-grip U bolt, clamp, ) is chosen for each. In this context, ‘hanger’ is used to mean the component attaching to the pipe, and can include support from above or below. Thus a single support can include a number of hangers: one per pipeline.
