Topology File Structure

This section describes the format of the Topology file used for the input of boundary surface data (including the corrugation and stool definition) and compartment definitions in terms of the bounding surfaces and other attributes.

The first record in the file must have the word TOPOLOGY as the first word on the line. Files written by Surface/Compartment will follow this by for <ship> where <ship> is the name of the ship contained in the dm file.

The remainder of the file contains groups of records describing internal surfaces and/or compartments. The end of the file is indicated by a record containing the letter E only. Blank lines may be used to increase readability.

Identifiers and descriptors must be surrounded by quotation marks if they contain embedded space characters, that means, Transverse one whereas TRANSVERSE_1 need not be surrounded by quotation marks. An asterisk, *, is a special identifier for bulkheads and decks which means the bounding surface of the hull:

for an aft trans. bulkhead,

* means the aft end of the ship,

for a fwd trans. bulkhead,

* means the fwd end of the ship,

for a lower deck,

* means the bottom of the hull,

for an upper deck,

* means the top of main hull,

for an inner long. bulkhead,

* means the centreline, and

for an outer long. bulkhead,

* means the ship's side.

The following tables describe the groups of records. Each box describes one record. Fields are separated by space or tab characters.
