Figure 4:29. Create Curve - Curve Points Tab.

The Curve Points tab is used to create a current curve from data points.

Use Curve Points tab

  1. Select the Curve Points tab.

  2. Select the type of curve and type in a curve name if appropriate. If creating the parallel midbody curves from points then the aft and forward extents are required.

  3. Type in the data points for the curve into the white columns of the grid.

  4. Change the point type by clicking in the blue grid box and selecting "Ordinary", "Tangent" or "Knuckle".

    Alternatively:

    • Click the Import button and select a file, which already contains the data points and select Open. The data points will be inserted into the grid. Note that any existing data points will be replaced.

    • Click the Pick button and select intersection or knuckle points from a graphics window. The coordinates of the selected points will be inserted into the points grid. If Intersections is selected, the intersection point of the two nearest curves to the cursor will be inserted into the points grid. If Knuckles is selected, a knuckle or end point of the nearest curve to the cursor will be inserted into the points grid. This enables the user to create 3D curves along a knuckled camber, for example.

  5. Points can be copied by selecting grid boxes or a whole line and then clicking the Right Mouse button and selecting COPY or <Ctrl-C>.

  6. Points can be pasted by selecting the grid box at which to paste and clicking the Right Mouse button and selecting PASTE or <Ctrl-V>. Points can be copied from and pasted to other products, for example Microsoft Excel.

  7. Points can be deleted by clicking the Right Mouse button and selecting DELETE.

  8. Extra lines for new points can be inserted by selecting the point at which to insert, clicking the Right Mouse button and selecting INSERT.

  9. To insert multiple lines, firstly select the number of lines you want to insert, and then select INSERT from the popup menu.

  10. Point can be highlighted in the graphics window by selecting the required points in the grid and holding the Left Mouse button down.
