Sometimes shape of patch edges appears to be correct but the interior shape of patches is wrong. If Sparse, poorly distributed or unfair data curves are not to blame, the cause could be the wrong selection of smoothing function of smoothing function parameters.

Usually the default values for the smoothing function and parameters give good results. If the interior shape of patches (without using data) is poor, improvement is often best sought by altering the shape of the edges by selecting different boundary curves (see #above). However, in some cases this may not be possible or appropriate, so changing the smoothing function selection and/or smoothing function parameters is desirable.

Another problem is that in some cases, the use of a smoothing function can produce boundary curves that do not follow the active curves closely enough, even though the smoothing function is required to generate the interior shape of patches.
